Sex is Happening Everywhere Around Me. But None of It’s Happening TO Me.

Yesterday, I was watching the news and a piece about prostitution comes on. As I’m watching, I realize that the live report is coming from North and Hermitage, about a block or two away from where I live. I recognize buildings in the background, behind the newswoman.

I was fairly oblivious to the fact that there was some kind of problem with prostitution in the neighborhood. My friends Liz and Steph live on the other side of North, and they’ve had problems with prostitutes and johns in the alleyways, by where they live. Outside of their stories, I hadn’t really heard all that much. But according to the report, Bucktown’s got a lot of ’em.

Another interesting twist is the decision by the Chicago Police to start posting the names of the people who were caught trying to solicit a prostitute. A shame tactic, apparently.

On looking at that sign (above), I’m wondering… is it lawful to solicit for prostitution in the comfort of your own home? Privately?

  1. That sign doesnt make any sense. Yes, we all know prostitution is illegal but we still use it anyway. Its like downloading films or music. Yes you shouldn’t do it but everyone does it anyway. Prostitution is the same. I don’t see any real harm in paying someone for sex, especially if you’re not getting any. Sex can make you feel good about yourself and help you to control your emotions and live for the moment. Building a relationship takes time and trust, and i think it is good to have a healthy relationship but sometimes it’s good to just escape from your everyday life for and hour or so and fuckk. As long as your treat the whore fairly i think that it is a completely normal and healthy thing to do.
