The Taco Bell Grande Value Meal Challenge: A Proposal

At the lunchtable, I heard the tail end of some sort of food challenge being issued. Apparently, Taco Bell has some sort of Grande Value Meal wherein you can get ten items for about $10 (naturally, they’re smaller items… like regular burritos, soft tacos, etc).

The challenge then? Purchase the Grande Value Meal, comprised of four bean burritos… and your choice of 6 hard/soft tacos. Eat all ten within the space of an hour. No vomit rule (or, as they say in eating contests… “reversal of fortunes”).

The prize? $40.

It’s an odd bet, with a few folks wondering if they could actually complete the task. Chris is of the mind that four bean burritos is way too much, and that it’s just not possible (by regular, non-pros that is).

This is not a new idea, as many folks out there have their own variation: eat ten soft tacos in 30 minutes, etc. I was (and wasn’t) surprised to already see videos aplenty of said challenge on YouTube.

So far, no one’s stepped up to the plate. Honestly, I don’t remember how big a regular bean burrito is. I keep going back and forth – maybe I could do it, there’s no way, maybe I could, no… no way.

In this office, we are no strangers to the wonderfulness that is the food-based challenge. As evidence of our prowess (and shame), I offer up:

the Arby’s “Six Roast Beef Sandwiches in One Hour” Challenge
the “Vending Machine Challenge” (Part 1, Intermission + Video, Part 2)
the Catching a Pancake Frisbee challenge
the Catch a Munchkin in Your Mouth challenge
the Catch a Boston Creme Donut with Your Face challenge

  5. Yeah dude I just totally did this last night. My buddy and I were talking about what to have for dinner and we decided on Taco Bell. I was talking about the grande meal and we decided on seeing who could finish it first. I went with the 4 bean burritos and 6 soft and he went with the 4 bean burritos, 3 hard tacos and one soft shell taco. He being a bit bigger then me everyone including him thought he would win. He started strong and was beating me by one but by taco #5 I pulled away and never looked back. 45 mins or so(give or take 5mins) I finished #10 and he was struggling with #8. I went with the order of 2 taco, 1 burrito, 3 tacos, 1 burrito and finishing off with the last taco. I didnt think about getting pics as I just found this post but when the rematch happens Ill be sure to get pics or vid of it.

  6. a taco bell in my area has a wall of fame with polaroids of people that have done the grande challenge…this was like a couple years ago…you have to do the 4 bean, 3 soft, and 3 hard im pretty sure. I agree that the bean burritos would be the true test

  7. Are you serious? I eat ten tacos every Packer game within the first quarter. This is not much of a challenge. They’re not overly large or spicy or something that would require more than an hour. I’ll eat twenty within an hour for $40.
