Dark Stores: Photographs of Absence

Dark Stores is a series of photographs by photographer Brian Ulrich. Showcasing stores and malls that were specifically designed to be populated by people, there’s a moody feel to these images.

At first the images made me think of zombie movies, where everyone else on earth had just disappeared. From there, I shifted away from thinking about the absence of people, and about the loneliness of these buildings.
