Laura Veirs: Jailhouse Fire
I recognize Laura Veirs from the album cover for Year of Meteros, only saw it float by in passing when browsing around in Rdio.
About a week ago I happened across her album The Triumphs And Travails Of Orphan Mae, heard this song (Jailhouse Fire), and got hooked.
It’s been a long while since I’ve encountered a song that uses the word “fire” as its main rhyme. Veirs pulls it off well, where you don’t really fixate a lot on the word – and it comes up both naturally and quickly in the song.
I think the speed with which the main lines come up is a big part of the draw. I’ve had this tune rolling around in my head for a while now, and figured it warranted sharing.
The video (above) isn’t the greatest quality or version of the song. If you use either service, you can listen to it on Rdio or on Spotify.
