Visiting with Jim: Old Friend, New City

I found out late in the week that my friend Jim was in town, so we made plans to hang out for a bit on Saturday evening. I know Jim from way back when, as we were both students in the MFA program at The Ohio State University. We were both studying poetry (though Jim was a year behind me).
We hit up The Promontory first, and sat outside chatting while the sun slowly dropped. We talked about our lives since Columbus, OH, and all the various things we’ve been up to. And of course, we talked a little about writing as well (because talking about writing counts as writing, don’t you know).
Afterwards, we stopped by the house for a quick tour (though I’m not sure I fully prepared him for what exactly we were doing, renovation-wise). After that, we headed over to Woodlawn Tap for another drink.
Jim’s here visiting with his girlfriend, who is looking into medical programs (she’s been accepted to several, and one of which is at the University of Chicago). They’re visiting campuses, trying to figure out where they want to ultimately go/live.
It was nice catching up with Jim, talking about old and new cities, and where our lives have gone since OSU. I made the joke that he looks just like he did, back when I knew him. I remarked how he seems to have not aged at all, and he joked back, saying he had a portrait in his office that ages year to year. Looking at this picture I took of him, I’m not so sure he’s joking…
