Crooked Fingers: Sleep All Summer

Sometime last week, as I was listening to one song by Sasha Alex Sloan repeatedly, I ended up on a custom playlist and discovered Crooked Fingers.

In particular, this song is what caught my ear:

The opening lines sound very much like a lullaby, which is what drew me in initially. But the more I listened, the more I started to hear the words. And really enjoy the lyrics:

Cold ways kill cool lovers
Strange way we love to suffer
Why won’t you fall back in love with me
There ain’t no way we’re gonna find another
The way we sleep all summer
So why won’t you fall back in love with me

The line that keeps coming back for me is “Why won’t you fall back in love with me,” which I just really like.

// Edit: Discovered a lot of other musicians have since covered this song. Notably: The National and St. Vincent, as well as Neko Case.
