Zombie City

I’ve been playing this game, Zombie City, an inordinate amount, lately. The thing of it is the game stopped being, like, fun a while ago. And now it just feels more… meditative?
The zombie game, where you try to eat all the humans, feels calming to me? I guess if my past gaming history is any indicator, this makes some degree of sense.
A lot of the earlier challenges to the game (new enemy types, timed events) have all kind of fallen away. I’m aware of all the mechanics now, and each level is simply another variation of things I’m very familiar with.
So the game isn’t really a challenge anymore. It’s more like a systematic clearing of the screen. Almost like watching an old PC defrag itself, but with a lot more tapping of the screen involved.
This isn’t what I’d quite call an “idle” game, given the amount of interactivity required. But it’s remarkable to me how I’ll still play it, even though the whole experience feels incredibly mechanical and procedural.
While the initial levels were very entertaining, it’s now at a point where I’m kind of just checking out while I’m playing. I don’t need to think much at all. Just turn my brian off, and focus on… uh, eating brains?
