Porch and Polish
Liz and I had a mix of house tasks today. While I was outside working on the yard, she was inside cleaning up a lot of hardware.

My task: remove the old porch stairs, to make way for a deck extension that Bob’s going to help build for us.

Inside, Liz was working on polishing and cleaning a lot of door hardware.

A cleaned-up doorbell, from the door we picked up last year.

A view of the complex interior (worth noting that Liz took this whole thing apart, cleaned every piece, and put it back together again).

I need to record a video of the bell actually “dinging.”

The back porch stairs, removed. It was actually quite disturbing how easily each stair tread come off. And I sincerely have no idea how the back stairs even worked at all, as the stringer against the house seems to be attached to nothing at all.
I mean, it’s bolted into the brick facade. But I doubt that provides much support/strength at all. And the stringer itself was floating about a half an inch above the ground.
In a lot of ways, I kind of wish I hadn’t seen any of this. I guess the good news is that the old stuff is (mostly) gone, and we’ve made way for a newer, more secure bit of decking.
