Deck Board Install, Continued: Racing the Rain
I’ve been out the last few nights after work, trying to lay down a few deck boards before the light disappears. It’s been a bit slow going, as I’m fitting one piece… and then measuring the next, and then cutting the length I need.
There’s a lot of back and forth, between the deck and the basement (where the chopsaw is at). Add to this process the fact that I have to kind of crawl under the deck to get to the basement door… and you can see how this just eats up a bit of time.

Lately, I’ve been working until close to 7PM. I stop mostly because I’m afraid I’m annoying my neighbors with the noise, and also because it gets too dark to really see what I’m doing.

Today – I was racing the rain a bit. I got a few boards down, and felt some drops starting. The rain ended up being slight, and I made the decision to just keep on working despite it all… and it eventually subsided.

So close! The last board I had to put in wasn’t fitting right. And as much as I wanted to try to fiddle with it to get it to fit, I ultimately had to stop and just pack up for the night.
It’s already pretty dark at this point – and any illumination you see here in the photo come from the neighbors’ back porch lights.
