Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and an Armada of Alcohol

Liz and I were out in the suburbs today, hanging out in the late afternoon at Najwa and Joe’s house (a site we’ve gone to for prior Star Trek viewings).

We joined Mike and Michelle (and Fritz), along with Najwa and Joe’s son Michael (who very recently started getting caught up on all things Star Trek).

We’re all Star Trek fans, though in some ways I don’t quite feel as much of a Trekkie as the others. I can hold my own, but from time to time, I see there’s room for me to grow.

Personally, I haven’t been a big fan of Discovery. It’s fine, but I never quite latched on to it. I’ve definitely liked Strange New Worlds more, and tonight we all got together to watch the First Episode of Season Two together.

Note: before getting into the drinks, I should mention how amazing the food is that Najwa prepares for us. It’s a tremendous spread every time we visit, and a simple social visit ends up looking like a banquet. We had some great food for an early dinner, and got to hang out on the back porch with some dessert and drinks before the viewing began.

Inside, a full display of the various Star Trek themed bottles that Joe and Michael procured.

We had some samples the last time, but tonight the full range was on display.

For tonight, three bottles were opened: a Rose (from Risa), a Federation Zinfandel, and some Romulan Ale Vodka.

A few of us had some of the Vodka straight (which was a bright blue). Joe ended up making mini Cosmos, which ended up turning a fun purple color in the glass.

Over dinner (and during the first few minutes of the show)… we came up with various things that could turn watching Star Trek into a drinking game. I feel like we could have had just as much fun, spending the whole night coming up with this list.

Settling into the couch, under some custom knit blankets, watching Star Trek while sipping on tiny, colored drinks.

It’s been a hectic week or so, with a lot of travel and a lot of running around. It was lovely to relax and laugh and hang out with nerdy friends, watching the crew of the Enterprise do their thing.
