Joe Pug: Call It What You Will
Lately, I’ve been looping the song “Call It What You Will by Joe Pug incessantly, while driving. I’ve been enjoying singing it while in the car, as the notes rest in a very comfortable range for a baritone like me.
I’ve mentioned this song before, but I’ve played it so much recently… that I feel like it warrants repeating. But I hope me resurfacing a post from 2018 doesn’t count as repeating.
I’m still enamored with the lyrics, and with the last three lines of the chorus. I have to say, I’m not overly fond of the blues pattern of repetition in this song… but it’s grown on me. I’ve liked how the abstract descriptions inform the more expository moments, providing a balance.
she calls it December the third
Call it what you will, I’m heartbroken still
Words are just words
Such a great songwriter. If you don’t know Joe Pug, give him a listen.
