Stephen Wilson Jr: Stand By Me

Not sure how I came across this song. It’s been a bit, and I just know that I found this video… and made it a point to remember.

I think I came across Stephen Wilson Jr. through his song Year to Be Young 1994, which didn’t quite grab me (despite the strong nostalgia). But then I came across his version of Stand By Me, and was hooked.

The song opens up quietly enough. And as the lyrics come in, stronger and stronger, it’s just mesmerizing. On appearances, Wilson seems very unassuming. But his low growling voice is an interesting twist to this song, along with his volume and intensity as well.

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we’ll see
No, I won’t be afraid
Oh, I won’t be afraid
Just as long as you stand, stand by me

Curious to now listen to more of his album “søn of dad”, and his time with his former band AutoVaughn. I feel a bit late around both.
