Wedding Dresses, Edinburgh

It’s been a long while since I wrote poems, and even longer still since I studied poetry in college/grad school. But there are still certain poems that, once read, have stayed with me. Haunted is too strong a term, but perhaps only slightly so. These poems linger, and are not easily dismissed.

Recently, when I was in Scotland, I was walking from the Car Park to our apartment and passed by this shop. And spotted these wedding dresses in the windows.

I was immediately reminded of James Galvin, and his poem On the Sadness of Wedding Dresses.

It’s an incredible poem. Even if you don’t like poetry, I encourage you to read it. I guarantee you won’t forget it.

PS: For those wanting to know where this spot was in Edinburgh, it was right here.
