Mipso @ Old Town School of Folk Music

Got tickets to see Mipso at the Old Town School of Folk Music. I happened to see that the band was going on a “Farewell for Now” tour, with the group taking an indefinite break.

It’s tough to hear that the group is no longer going to be together, but perhaps they’ll reunite at some future point. But I’m glad we got seats at their Chicago show, to see them perform one last time.

Small note: the first time we saw them live was back in 2016. I wish we would have made a stronger effort to see them, between the years.

Sitting in the upper balcony, before the show.

It was lovely to hear them live again (and much closer). It’s difficult to describe just how lovely the group is to hear in person. Their voices are each so crisp and clear, and together – their harmonies are just joyous.

I was trying to describe the feeling of their harmonies, while listening to them. They felt like these small, spherical shapes of warmth. As good as they sound on their recordings, they sound, incredibly, even better live.

During the intermission, I wandered by the “Requests” can.

Threw in my vote (which was for Captain’s Daughter), which was admittedly a longshot.

Back on stage, after the intermission.

As an encore, for their last song the band performed Angel Band.

Farewell (for now), Mipso. Thank you for all the music, and we do truly hope to see you soon.
