Mipso: Captain’s Daughter
Mipso is one of those bands that I keep going back to. And while I most definitely have more than one song of theirs I count as a favorite, one that really stands out to me is called “Captain’s Daughter.”
Beyond the catchiness of the tune itself, the lyrics tell a fantastic story. To me, its structure reminds me of a fable in a lot of ways, with a small twist at the end that was always there in plain sight.
So long to my dear sea, I’m going home
Wash my face in the salty water
I’ve got a date with the captain’s daughter
I really wish there was a better quality video of them performing this song. The video above is nice, but doesn’t really do the song justice. Here’s the official audio version.
// Edit: bummed to find out that I just missed an online concert of theirs. There have been a few artists I like who have taken an online approach, and I’m surprised I haven’t encountered more of this before now.
