New Board, Games

A while back… I saw some advertisements for Board, an electronic board that interacted with physical pieces. It seemed like a combination of a lot of things I like – board games, with a bit of electronic tech thrown in.

I debated on this for a long while (it was a pricey thing to pop on). But ordered it as part of the early release. Unsure of the best timing for delivery, I ended up having it delivered to us in Michigan.

I got a note a few days back that there were delays in customs. So there was some change that this thing might not arrive at all. But luckily, it showed up on our doorstep today.

The thing is sizable, with the box for all the physical pieces nearly as big as the box for the board itself.

While some pieces were used across multiple games, a few of the games had their own custom pieces.

Start screen.

Loading up. The Board did require a WiFi connection initially, but I don’t think it’s absolutely needed for play (just setup and the initial download of games I think). You can set up profiles/usernames, which seem to be stored online. But beyond that, it just requires a wall outlet for power.

Trying out “Save the Bloogs,” a variation on the classic Lemmings games.

Liz and I playing against each other on “Cosmic Crush,” an interactive match-three game.

There’s a great delight in seeing a visual/electronic response, whenever a physical piece would touch the board. Looking forward to exploring the games more, and seeing how it works with a larger group.
