Matt Nathanson: Little Victories

What’s really weird/wild to me: I remember the specific day and time, where I learned about Matt Nathanson. This was back in 2005, and it was a neighbor of Justin’s in Ukrainian Village, Michelle R.

I remember hanging out with in her apartment, and we were listening to songs on her computer. I purchased an album of his soon after, and this song has been in my head ever since. I never did get into Nathanson’s music, but this one song in particular has stayed with me.

Joe Satriani: Satch Boogie

Here’s a song called “Satch Boogie,” by Joe Satriani. He’s played this countless times since it came out in the mid-80’s… but it blew me away when I first heard it, on his album “Surfing with the Alien.” Probably my favorite song from that album.

Soundslice – Interactive Audio Player and Notation Viewer for Guitar Tabs

I just learned about Soundslice the other day, and it’s just freaking amazing. It’s a hybrid audio player and notation viewer, letting you see and hear guitar tabs… making the whole process of learning a song that much easier. In addition to the great functionality, they’re also accepting annotations of YouTube videos. The whole site is really slick, and looks to be a wonderful departure from the ugly world of text-based tabs.

Me and My New Seagull Guitar

After a many months of hand-wringing, I went out shopping with Liz on my birthday and pulled the trigger on a new guitar. Despite having wanted a guitar for some significant period of time now, the actual process of shopping for and buying the thing was actually kind of difficult. It was less about comparing guitars, and more about me having some weird reaction to actually buying the thing.

Buying an Acoustic Guitar: Excited, Nervous

I’ve been considering getting an acoustic guitar for some time now. Over a year, easily. More than two years, possibly. I like the idea of playing music again, and quite honestly… singing a little. I sing from time to time, but I do so kind of in secret – either in the shower, or when I’m in the apartment alone. The act of singing a song I like brings me great pleasure, but the thought of “performing” for other people doesn’t quite elicit the same response.
