A Poem From Us: Stickers Out in the Wild…
On Monday, Liz and I stopped in at New Wave Coffee on our way home from work. We both got coffees, and I ended up dropping off a small stack of stickers for A Poem From Us.
I found it kind of nerve-wracking, honestly. Kind of like how I expect a parent would feel, watching their kid take off down the street shortly after taking the training wheels off their bicycle. Kind of a no-turning-back moment.
I guess what it comes down to for me is that the project has entered into a different phase. It’s been a very private, closed thing for so long… and now it’s officially out there, for people to like or disregard, as they see fit.
To further this feeling of being “out there,” I spent a good portion of last night printing up envelopes and sending stickers to people who wrote in to request them. It’s kind of neat to imagine these guys destined for streetlamps and walls in other cities, beyond Chicago.
I’m excited, but equally nervous. Training wheels are off.
PS: If you’re curious how the QR codes work, or interested in getting some free stickers yourself… all you need to do is fill out this form.
Here’s a stupid question: can I actually stick the stickers on things, or is that vandalism? I don’t want to get you into trouble.
Mellzah (April 11, 2012 at 10:51 pm)I think it depends on where you place the stickers. Technically and legally, I guess it would be vandalism if you place the sticker somewhere where you don’t have permission to. But I’m thinking that would be the same if you posted up, say, a flyer.
I don’t think the project will get in trouble for the stickers. Best advice I have is to exercise your own personal judgment when posting up the stickers. Thanks for the concern though!
