Hozier: Angel of Small Death & the Codeine Scene
I happened across Hozier yesterday, while browsing around the new releases this week on Rdio. The first song on his self-titled album, Take Me to Church, really got me interested.
But the moment I heard Angel of Small Death & the Codeine Scene, I got hooked! I knew right off the bat that this would be a song that I’d end up looping nonstop. If you’re reading this and it’s Friday (10/10/2006), there’s a high probability I’ve got this song playing right now.
When I was working last night on prepping for my upcoming talk… I had a hard time ignoring the urge to drop what I was doing, and going to grab my guitar and learn this song. It seems a very unusual key, and actually reminds me a bit of Chicago at Night, by Spoon. Not exactly the same key, but a lot of sharps.
Seems like there aren’t a ton of chords to this song, and the vocals are just within my range (that F# is a reach, but I think I could hit it if I did so quickly). Pretty sure I’ll take a stab this weekend at trying to learn how to play it. Assuming I pause the song long enough to do so, that is.

Hey Felix,
I’ve been moderately obsessed by Hozier since hearing him a year or so ago. Just got the album on vinyl and worth every penny.
Hope you’re all well!

I found the guitar chords to this song to be not too tricky, and found a decent tab online (only four chords). The lyrics are slightly off, but it was fairly easy to pick up.
