Bathroom and Basement Demo
Spent Saturday doing a little more work on the house. While Liz was cleaning up the first floor bathroom (vacuuming debris and taking out nails), I was busting out the exterior wall along the stairs that lead to the basement.
I was skeptical that any insulation was in the walls (because it’s missing from literally every other wall in the house). But lo and behold – insulation! I think there was some work done in this spot of the house, as there’s insulation that extends from here up to the second floor bathroom.
Liz, on the stairs.
We have a to-do list that we’re slowly pecking away at. This was a quick-ish job: removing the metal lining around a floor vent. This is Liz, tackling the problem from the first floor while I look up from the basement.
We made a few passes, painting the basement soon after we cleaned it. As a result, a lot of the paint on the metal had started to chip and peel, due to all the temperature fluctuations.
The joists, clear of metal.
Around 4PM, after we both showered up… Liz and I decided to go for a post-work drink over at Woodlawn Tap.
Originally the goal was to meet up with Bob for some drinks, as he had to work today (Saturday). But unfortunately, he had a friend whose hot water heater went on the fritz… and so he had to tackle that emergency after his work day. Poor Bob – he’s been working 6 and 7 day weeks for nearly 5 weeks now, and it’s just exhausting to hear about his schedule.
Hopefully some day soon, we can meet up with him for some drinks. Woodlawn Tap is a great meeting spot, as it’s a bar that Bob used to come to… back when he was doing construction in the area, many years ago. One of these days, when things settle down for him with work – we’ll all meet up there for drinks. Soon.
