Backyard: One Last Look

Tonight, after work, Liz and I stepped out on the back porch and took one last look at the backyard. It’s a crazy, overgrown mess… but all of that changes, in less than 24 hours.

The view from the steps, looking North towards our neighbor’s house.

Tomorrow, if the gods are kind, we’ll see a crew of folks show up to do battle with the concrete, dirt, and vegetation that’s taken over back here. If all goes according to plan, they’ll literally clear everything away.

The work is slated to take two days, with a yard that’s clear and level at the end of it. Depending on if and when it rains, the work might get staggered… and the sod delivery we have lined up might need to get rescheduled (we had a recent issue where we had to scramble, and get a totally different vendor on short notice – a story for another time).

There are a lot of variables in the air, all of which depend on the amount of moisture in the air. We’ll see how things go. I’m excited and nervous and… excited, frankly. We’ve largely ignored the backyard since we moved in, so this is an enormous step for us.

I think it’s going to be great. We’ve been talking about this for ages, and it’s finally all going to happen tomorrow… if the weather cooperates. Wish us luck!
