FIGS Christmas Card, 2016
This is the card I got this year from Ian and his family. The “From” address listed the name FIGS, which is the first letter of each of their names (Freya, Ian, Gabi, Steph).
It’s interesting to note that I’ve only met Ian in person once, many years ago. But I’ve “known” and talked with him online for… maybe 15, 16 years now?
Starting with a forum called “We’re Here,” then with a forum called “Twelvestone” – most of us were early Flash animators, back in the day (circa 2000, in the era when Flash was still called “Macromedia Flash”).
Though I don’t frequent the forums (or Slack team) much anymore, we all still interact with one another in more indirect ways – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.
In addition to how awesomely creative the cards are (check out the one from last year), the physical card I receive from Ian and his family is a reminder of those bygone times. And of all these talented people I know, spread out all over the world.
Thanks for the card, FIGS! It’s always such a delightful thing to receive, each year.
