Found Treasure
I was out getting some coffee along 53rd, when I heard some really loud music blaring nearby. At first, I thought it was coming from someone’s car… but then realized it came from around the corner, from a truck that was parked along Harper Court.
I was back inside my car when I saw this and then thought… ok, I need to know what’s up here. And so I got out and walked over.
To date, I’d never heard of Amazon’s Treasure Truck, but I guess this is something that’s gone on since 2016?
Based on the look of the truck itself, I was thinking they were giving things away for free. There was some kind of bag/game seup, and it seemed very carnival-esque.
On getting closer, I talked with someone who briefly explained the setup to me. The truck is meant to deliver a discounted item, made available via the Amazon App. So I guess you sign up for alerts, Amazon tells you about a discounted item, and if you want to buy it… you do so through the app, and pick up the item at a truck.
I guess it’s a bit like a cross between the Amazon Locker and delivering to your doorstep.
It’s an interesting concept, but whatever they had on sale today was flowers (and they were apparently all sold out). The whole thing seemed a bit anticlimactic to me, but perhaps I’d be more excited if they were selling something I was interested in.
