Digging Under the Back Porch, Part 14
More solo digging for me today, with Liz away in Atlanta.
This was a daunting evening – a lot of material to move, all before the weekend arrives. At this point, I’m not really sure if I can get everything done/removed in time or not.

The soil, just outside of the basement door.
The challenge: we want 4″ of concrete. But this also means we want 6″ of gravel, underneath the concrete as a base. So if we want to be flush with the basement door, we need to be 10″ below where the door’s at.

Filling up the second Bagster.

Doing a bit of math with the laser level. The height of the laser line to the ground is about 4.5″. If we want 10″ below where the basement floor is, we want to hit 14.5″ on the tape.

Not the brightest idea, digging away at the base of the ladder… but what can you do?
The process here was really slow/annoying. I’d fill up three buckets, throw them onto the lawn, then climb up the ladder and walk them to the Bagster. Rinse and repeat. A lot.

There was a layer of brick here, which got the level down faster than I anticipated. Still a lot of work pulling everything out, and trying to tamp things level. Busy night.
