Ed Sheeran: One
I was listening to my “Most Played Songs 2024” from Spotify, and realized I had several songs on here… that I don’t quite recall what happened. Case in point: Ed Sheeran’s song “One.”
I kind of know of Ed Sheeran, but can’t say that I really know a lot of his work. I recognize some stuff. But for some reason, I don’t recall how this song got into my rotation.
But get in it did, because it’s pretty high on the list. Was this something I just looped incessantly for a few weeks, but just blanked on it?
Well, it’s an old, old song – but new (ish) to me. So here it is again, for both of us:
While I’m stumbling home as drunk as I
Have ever been and I’ll never leave again
‘Cause you are the only one
There’s a part of me that is reminded of an even older song (and a running in-joke between me and peabe): Collide, by Howie Day.
The two of us worked on a Flash microsite forever ago (pretty sure it was back when we were back at the Merchandise Mart). And Howie Day was one of the featured artists… and every once in a while, we’d whisper/sing “Even the best fall down sometimes…” to one another.
In fact, he texted me a happy birthday message, earlier this year… and it was more or less just a link to the Howie Day song. Ah, nostalgia.
Another random bit of trivia: I’m a big fan of the song “The Parting Glass.” To date, my favorite version is done by The Wailin’ Jennys, but Sheeran comes in a close second.
