Akkeshi Adelphi

While at Binny’s, Liz and I were browsing the whisky aisle when we were surprised to find an Adelphi bottle in the Japanese section!

Adelphi is one of our favorite bottlers, something we discovered thanks to Charlotte at the Malt Room in Inverness. I believe she said that she never had a bottle by Adelphi that she didn’t like, and I’m pretty close to sharing that opinion.

I’m used to seeing Adelphi bottles that come from more traditional Scottish distilleries. So this was an interesting/exciting thing to come across.

Interesting that it’s just a three year old whisky.

Liz is a fan of Paul John, a whisky based out of India. The interesting thing about whiskies from climates different from Scotland is that their maturation times vary.

Indian whisky tends to have a lower maturation time, given that it’s a hotter/warmer climate. While Scottish whiskies tend to be in the 8/10/12+ range, it’s surprising to see something that’s in the three year range.

I don’t know a ton about Japanese whisky, and even less about Akkeshi. Liz and I had a fun time sampling some of Uncle David’s whisky collection back in 2020. And I’ve sampled some since then. But haven’t really explored it all too much.

Interesting that Adelphi has a bottling from Akkeshi. I’ll be curious to see if we spot any bottles from them involving Indian, Australian, or Italian whisky in the near future.
