Down in a Hole

I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time lately, playing this game called Hole.io. To clarify – I think this game has been around forever, and I’ve just come across the iPhone version of it recently.

The goal is pretty straightforward: you’re a hole and your job is to eat everything. While there’s a multi-player element to things, the iOS version of the game has some pretty rudimentary AI so there’s no real danger from other “players.” Mostly, you’re playing against a rather generous clock.

With my time on this game, it’s gotten less challenging. And I’m playing mostly as a form of relaxation. It’s a bit like watching a hard drive defrag (if any of you young-uns know the reference).

Playing this game doesn’t quite feel like a game, it feels more… meditative, if that makes sense. A game to relieve stress. But perhaps this is what kids say, as a way to explain away their overindulgence of screen time.

There’s a version you can play online, but the mobile version is much nicer (better graphics, and less of a free for all).
