Christmas in Indy, Day 1: Top Golf

Despite being home for the holidays, I was working remote. So my days were spoken for from 9-5, but in the evenings we were able to do some fun activities.

This trip, I was thinking we’d end up doing another Escape Room, after our group attempt last year.

But Stacey proposed something new – going out to Topgolf. We did the math, and this excursion ended up being cheaper than an escape room (and for 2 hours, instead of just 1).

I’ll be honest – I wasn’t exactly sold on this, as I don’t really play golf. And I wasn’t sure how much fun it would be. But I was wrong! We had a blast!

Despite it being cold out, the seating areas were very comfortable. There were heat lamps above, and the seats themselves were also heated. I got so warm, I ended up taking off my jacket and was in a t-shirt the whole time.

Family posing for the camera, while my dad focuses on the scoreboard.

Liz and Jasmine, stepping up. Because we had a larger party, we ended up needing to get two sections (6 people can play, but each section only holds up to 8).

My dad, who was quite good. He used to have an old pair of clubs and had practiced some in the basement, but not sure if he’d ever really gotten out into the open before.

Me, stepping up to the tee. While I whiffed a few times, I gradually got better the more I practiced. Definitely satisfying to really connect, when it happened.

One goal that I never reached: hitting one of the golf carts that were picking up the balls. I felt like they were out there, taunting me the whole time.

Stacey, about to swing. The whole structure has three floors. And while it might have been fun to be higher up, I actually liked being on the ground level. It made our swings (and the results of our swings) a bit more realistic.

My dad, offering up tips to my mom. Who, I should add, actually did quite well. Though she didn’t go for power or distance, she was pretty consistent… and the balls she hit ended up rolling a good ways. She ended up in second place a few times.
