Christmas in Indy, Day 3: Art Gallery Heist at Escape Room USA

Another lazy day today, not much to show. Putzed around the house and mostly relaxed. I’m sure there was a lot of TV watching. Perhaps a nap or two.

We did have one big family activity, but it took place much later in the day. We had a late evening (7PM) escape room booked, at Escape Room USA.

En route, we got to see downtown Indy, and the circle. And waved at my old employer, Emmis, as we passed by the office there.

For our escape room, our job was to break into a museum and steal the Mona Lisa. It was a bit hectic with all of us in the room (first time for my mom and dad), but we made do.

A lot of divide and conquer. A lot of Liz and me yelling out reminders for people to yell things out to one another.

The room was… fine. I’m not going to reveal details or spoilers, but I will say that it was well designed and decorated. But there were small details that I found a bit wanting.

We had some flashlights to use, but one of them had a dead battery (we were told to use light from our phones). And some of the puzzles… didn’t seem to quite fit. That is to say: it didn’t feel like we were solving how to do an art heist; it felt like we had completely random puzzles to solve, and the just happened to be located inside an art museum.

Still – some of the special effects and mechanical contraptions were quite impressive. The more escape rooms I do, the more of an opinion I seem to get on their design.

Happy to report that we successfully stole the Mona Lisa. Then went straight home for some late night snacks.
