MTV Rewind

MTV Rewind is a fantastic online project by FlexasaurusRex. It’s an incredible online repository of MTV videos, spanning all the way back to the first day on air.

There are a ton of ways to navigate the content. You can search by decade, by record label, by shows. Of course, I immediately fired up the Headbangers Ball channel.
And was then reminded that Skid Row did a cover of Little Wing.

And then a slow transition into the Grunge era.
I can’t tell you how happy this site makes me, and how wonderful it was to chance across it. In addition to the nostalgia factor, this project reminds me of the Internet that I remember, back in the early 2000’s.
The web back then was full of experimentation and delight. Just people doing awesome things, just because. No one was trying to monetize things, no one was chasing clicks or views. There was markedly less shouting and anger.
An earlier time. Which seems fitting too, since MTV also represents an earlier time of music.
And hey, the project also allows for embedding. So here you are. Explore. Discover. And go recapture and lose a bit of time, at the same time:
