Showing Off the Skills

You can’t see it in this picture, but Bob, Liz, and I are all smiling like crazy watching the dogs on Jake’s bike. We heard some great stories about how other people (pedestrians, other bicyclists, and even cars) reacted when seeing these guys go down the street.
Last night, there was a momentary encounter between Quincy and Tus (who have met before). But seeing how Quincy is crazy brave and not scared in the slightest of Tus… we may try another introduction this week.
Jake’s dog Tus went missing yesterday, while they were out in the south side of Chicago at Sherman Park, near 55th and Racine. He’s offering a $2,000 reward for her safe return – and anything you can do to help spread the word would be greatly appreciated.
Tus is a mutt with white fur, weighs approximately 30 lbs. and his white fur and pointy ears (looks like a fox). She was last wearing a black collar. Please call 847.420.3034 with any information.
Spent a most of Saturday hanging out at Jake’s place, over in Rogers Park. I got the time wrong (thought it started at 12:00, but he was expecting folks at 2:00 PM)… so we showed up a little early. We arrived thinking we were fashionably late at 1:30 PM, but turns out we were by far the first ones there
For much of the weekend, Jake would throw sticks into the water for Tus to fetch. At first, she was hesitant to get in the water… but once she realized it was ok (after Jake tossed her in), she started diving in on her own. According to Jake, this was the first time she had ever jumped into a lake totally on her own – you could tell he was really proud of Tus.
I walked up near the starting area to snap a few pics. This is the registration area, where you sign your name, get your map, and get your red and blue ribbons. The blue ribbon goes immediately around your arm, to signal that you’re a runner. Throughout the game, as you’re trying to get to each checkpoint on your map, you’ll be trying to avoid people with red armbands (chasers). If you’re caught, you give your blue arm band to the person who caught you, put on your red arm band… and become a chaser yourself.
On occasion, Tus would get worn out with the back and forth… and kind of just plop onto the ground. In a few rare instances, she’d also flop on her back and kind of slither back and forth, as though she were scratching an itch something fierce. Luckily, I got a bit of it on video:
This is Tus, plopped on the ground in our apartment. She’s a little sad and missing Jake, who’s out of town this week. That, and I’m sure the heat wave going on currently isn’t helping matters much. So far, she’s been pretty low key. We go for walks in the morning, walks after work, and then another walk right before…
Jake is visiting friends in Minnesota this weekend, and has asked us to look after Tus while he’s away. Liz and I have been dogsitters before, but this weekend looks to be exciting because we’re expecting a lot of cold (and a lot of snow). Even before Jake left, Tus knew Jake was going away for a while. You could…
On Friday Jake came over to our place for dinner (and Tus was along, of course). After we had eaten, we noticed that Baxter and Quincy seemed to be a little less freaked out by a dog in the area. Quincy seemed pretty nonchalant about everything, actually. And so we devised a test. Jake would hold Tus, and we would…
My friend Jake has been traveling in South America for some time now. Shortly after his trip to Shanghai, China, he came back in time for our wedding (with a day or two to spare), only to them depart a week later for Bolivia. Jake’s been keeping a travel blog over at Travelpod, including both text and photos. Because his…
