Wasting the Day Like Professionals

Liz and I wasted the day today. Totally. Utterly. I mean… we literally spent the day in bed, watching TV.

The few times we took breaks were to go to the bathroom, and maybe to get some snacks. But I’d estimate we spent about 90% of the day in the same spot. Conserving calories and killing brain cells.

We ended up watching the first season of Dark Matter on Netflix. We weren’t that familiar with what it was about, and decided to give it a go. After a few episodes, we just kept on watching… and polished off the entire season (13 episodes total).

Here’s the trailer:

It’s weird because… I found it interesting, but not totally compelling. The show had its moments, but I also had a hard time going along with some of the leaps it made. Sure, it’s a futuristic world with lots of new tech and whatnot. But a few spots made it hard for me to suspend my disbelief, and pulled me out of the story.

Despite all that, we kept on watching. To me, this show was a bit like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. It was full of really interesting characters, who got into interesting situations… but continued to tell lies to one another. And over the course of multiple lies getting revealed and resolved, the characters continued their lying ways.

It made for some interesting scenarios, but it just got hard to roll with. It made you want to clap your hands at them and yell “Just… stop. Stop.”

But I forgot – this story is about laziness. So despite not caring that much about the story, we still just kept on watching. Because after a while, our Playstation controller (we watch Netflix via an old PS3) died. And so we just kept on letting the next episode load up.

Towards the evening, after we ordered out for dinner… we remained in bed and fired up episodes of West Wing. I had started to watch a few episodes on my own, and got in a lot while Liz was out of town last week. She jumped in with me today, and we got several episodes in.

We called it a night around midnight… but that’s when we both realized that neither of us was tired (seeing as how we did nothing all day). And were kind of hungry still.

So. We heated up some of our takeout (fried rice), fired up West Wing again and watched another two episodes. Did I mention this all happened circa 1AM.

Liz was away at a conference last week in Vegas, for a few days. And I spent most of last week prepping for the 20×2 Chicago show. Today, with our big week and events behind us… we did absolutely nothing.

And it was glorious.
