Back Office Floor Demo Begins

Focused on pulling up the floor in the back office today. I forgot how many nails are used, to hold down the flooring – these big ones, no less.

This took a bit longer than usual. When working in the other areas of the second floor, there was always some ceiling drywall in place to catch all the debris. Below me is our kitchen, and all I really have is just a few plastic sheets, stretched across the floor joists.
They mostly catch what falls down, but it’s tenuous. I spent a lot of time pulling up floor boards, pulling up nails, and then cleaning up the joists and (carefully) using the shop vac to pick up any debris from the plastic. This process left things a bit cleaner, but definitely took longer.
Also: the process is really slow. I’m used to being able to brute force these boards up, but I’m being more gentle (trying to lessen the amount of falling debris onto the kitchen). And the floor boards are splintering on me a whole lot more.

Was able to get a 4×8 plywood down on the ground. While I feel like I’ve gotten my sea legs in terms of walking across joists, it’s been a minute.
Glad to have a stable surface back here. Should make things easier to get the rest of the flooring up.
