Warehouse Liquors: Glenmorangie Tasting
Liz and I went out to Warehouse Liquors, for a Glenmorangie tasting.
I’m a bit so-so on Glenmorangie, but I know that Liz had a really excellent tasting some years back. And the brand ambassador of tonight’s event was the same person she met, at a prior Women Who Whiskey event: Dan Crowell.

On arriving, we were greeted with a fun assortment of bottles. Out of all the various distilleries I know, Glenmorangie has really pushed the envelope on developing distinctively different identities, for its various offerings.
Most companies try to keep their identity consistent, a stable look and feel that carries across their packaging. But Glenmorangie seems to have embraced this very diverse, wildly different style and gone for breadth.
Looking at this group of bottles, yes – it’s a range of whiskies. But boy howdy, is it a very big range of style and marketing and branding, to boot. Really quite incredible, when you take a step back to look at it all.

Our drams, a mixture of staples and rarities.

Liz, investigating a dram.

Dan Crowell was a great facilitator, and an incredibly entertaining and educational brand ambassador. He had a lot of energy, had a lot of thoughts on things… but reminded me of a very specific software developer adage: strong opinions, loosely held.
He shared his thoughts and opinions freely, but also made sure that he wasn’t being prescriptive about what he was sharing. He made the room feel comfortable, and everything about his talk and presentation was inclusive, inviting, warm.
Tonight, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I know that for several nights prior to this, there were other Glenmorangie tastings: a Women Who Whiskey event, a Drammers event, and then tonight. Which kind of felt like a free-for-all (the crowd was incredibly varied – some young kids, some folks who seemed like veteran whisky afficionados).
But Dan was incredibly professional all around, and made it feel like a shared, group event – despite the variance in the audience. I had a lot of fun listening to him talk, and if oyu ever get the chance to see him at a local event… take note! It’s worth making the effort to attend.
