Haunted House, Frankfort
We ended up walking from the house over to Francesca’s. And on our way… we passed by a house that was totally ready for Halloween.

Last night, Liz and I trekked to Merrillville, IN, to celebrate Julie’s birthday with a surprise dinner. We left the city earlier than normal, to try to beat the rush-hour traffic, and ended up making great time. We arrived about an hour ahead of schedule, so we hit a nearby Meijer to do some shopping.
I’m sad that I won’t be dressing up this Halloween (due to travelling and being out of town). I didn’t think I’d miss it all that much, but seeing this great costume/prank by magician Rich Ferguson really makes me wish I had another themed/interactive costume to wear this year.
Dan Rosenfeld (aka Guru Ramen) made a pretty spectacular costume for Halloween. Using a shoulder-mounted harness, he jerry-rigged a combination of a 24″ LCD, video camera, mirror, microphone, video camera (pointing outward) and an additional, internal LCD screen.
We did end up having a few folks at the office dress up for Halloween, which was always a great thing to see. I was talking with AJ in the weeks leading up to Halloween, and was figuring it would just be the two of us in costume. When I arrived, I was happy to see a few more folks in costume:
This year, I decided to go with a simpler Halloween costume. I’m not sure how many of you have seen this already, but my idea is based off a random, animated .gif: a serial killer, cleaning off his car. I love the pausing and the looks the guy gives, and hopefully I’ll cause a fair amount of stares as I’m going to/from work.
With Halloween fast approaching, I’ve been seeing a small jump in traffic due to people linking to my old Operation costume (a working costume modeled after the board game).
Each year, whenever Halloween comes around… I get nervous, and tend to overplan or overthink my costumes. I have a tendency to want to do something grandiose for a costume. Couple that with a bit of procrastination, and well… it get silly. Sometimes I think my plans for Halloween work really well. Othertimes, I work things up so much in my head – I end up not dressing up for Halloween at all. Which is a terrible outcome.
At Nightmares, there’s this room where they have a camera set up. It’s very dark, so people are usually walking holding on to one another. According to Jane, there’s the illusion that a car is crashing through the wall, with its headlights coming straight at you. When this happens, the people in the room usually freak out. And right on cue, a camera takes a snapshot.
So I got to wear my robot costume a bit more by heading down to celebrate Halloween in Frankfort. Paige, as a princess. I love how Mario and Princess Peach are in the background. Tricia holding Sebastian, and Paige. I didn’t get a ton of photos, as my costume made it difficult to take photos….
Justin S was kind enough to accompany me during lunch, as I wandered around work looking for strangers to hug. As I was bopping about, he got some good photos and video of a ton of interactions. So far, I’d say that the costume’s been a big hit. In front of the Barnes & Noble,…
This Halloween, I decided to base my costume off of a robot that my friend Derrick created. The robot (born in Portland) made its way across the states to Chicago, during a gathering of a bunch of Internet weirdos. Not only that, my friend Melissa would later take the robotic alter-ego as her own. I…
It’s October 1st today, and that means there are only 30 days left until Halloween arrives. I’m a big fan of the holiday, and look at it as a chance to act like a kid again. I’m convinced that dressing up helps you to stay young. As we’ve grown up and become adults, I think…
Liz and I headed over to Merrillville, IN to hang out with Tricia and Darryl for the afternoon. We also stuck around to see all the kids’ costumes, and went over to Katie and Dan’s neighborhood. I’m used to seeing lots of folks trick or treating, but apparently it’s been a while since I’ve seen…
Dan dressed, aptly, in a mask as The Mask. Justin’s a lumberjack, and he’s ok. Nick who, along with his girlfriend Erin, dressed as The Knife. This is the first I’ve heard of them, so here’s a link. AJ as Juno. Utopia (and her alter ego). Matt B never, never fails to impress on this…
This year, I wanted my costume to be a bit more interactive. I had a lot of fun with my Operation costume, and really enjoyed not just being dressed up… but being dressed up and interacting with people. Of course, the goal is to give away candy. But the fun part to me was to…
