Spotted While At the Ophthalmologist

Back again at the ophthalmologist, to get my annual eye exam. After a disturbing period of time where my vision was blurring back in 2021… I’ve gotten my eyes checked once a year.

Part of the exam process involve pupil dilation, and you get taken to a waiting area for the stuff to kick in. As I was settling down, I spotted this sign:

Nice to see they’re not above using puns, if they can get more information from their patients.

I have to say – most of the folks I saw today were… older. Elderly. In the waiting area, I was definitely the youngest person there. And I knew this because despite the fact that everyone had their cellphones out, many of them didn’t understand how their volume controls worked.

I think at one point in time, two different people were watching videos with the volume on.

Next to me, two older women were discussing other friends of theirs who were suffering with vision problems. I tried not to eavesdrop, but the two stories I overheard involved cars: one included “shearing the side of a truck” and another involved driving “up on the sidewalk.”

I was legit terrified to hear more of their stories, and was actually quite relieved to get called in for my appointment. Also, secretly hoping those two women didn’t drive themselves in today.
