More Floors

Did a bit of floor work tonight, getting another board of plywood upstairs. Liz, measuring out a notch that we need to make in this piece.

Things got a little challenging, as we’ve been filling up the floor here. See the piece of plywood near the bottom there, with the black X inside a rectangle? That space is 49″ wide. Which is 1″ wider than your standard 8’x4′ plywood board. A little maddening.

We were debating ways to go about filling this space, and ended up finding several cutoff pieces that we more or less could patch in. The larger piece (in the photo above) is going in the above space.

Cut done, going for the dry fit.

And just like that – more floor! We have another smaller piece in the middle there. It’s not quite clear from this photo, but we used that full 8×4 board (with the custom cut) and got it down on the bottom right there. No fine tuning. Just went in on the first drop, and stayed down.

In the middle there, that little black areas is actually spraypaint on the board, and not a gap. Fools me every time.

While we have some gaps here and there, this isn’t too shabby for the two of us. Ultimately, there’s going to be a few more layers on top of this, so our work doesn’t need to be quite so pristine. We’re expecting a layer of self-leveling underlayment, another layer of plywood, and then our actual flooring.
