Open Floor Plan
We’ve got a light in the dining room (on the first floor) that we want to relocate slightly. In order to do this, we opted to gain access from the second floor, going down through the main bedroom floor.
We went this route (top down, through the bedroom) because the other option (cutting into the ceiling from the first floor) would have been significantly more work.
That’s because we never removed the original ceiling on the first floor (which was plaster). Instead, we secured the existing plaster ceiling in place with washers, and then added a new layer of drywall.
So doing any of the work from the first floor would have been markedly messier.

Cutting a small section away (I was a bit nervous doing this, for sure).

Added a small bit of wood, sistering it next to the floor joist.

Plywood back in place, and no one’s the wiser. Now we have a small hatch, for when we’re ready to try to tackle the electrical next time.
