Flooring Issues

Some unfortunate news. When we got back yesterday and unloaded the car, after being away for a few weeks… we found our floors in a less than ideal state than we had hoped.

We had new flooring installed on the second floor. And for the first, we wanted it screened and another coat put on.

Liz started spotting issues right away, and it seemed to worsen with each room. On the first floor, she found bits of dirt and debris, along with pieces of hair, trapped beneath the varnish. This wasn’t just one or two spots, but several.

Upstairs, we found gaps between the boards that should have been filled. And several spots where there were nail holes that weren’t filled in. Along with other issues.

Our flooring guy was responsive to our call, and came over the next day to walk things over and review with us. We assessed things, and we agreed on a day when his guys could come back to revisit the work.

While Liz had marked a few spots with tape, we talked and he said it would help if we noted all the areas that needed addressing.

To be clear, we were trying not to be insane and overly critical. And we discussed this concern with our flooring guy, and also went through looking a various spots. But he said it would help if we marked things, so that’s what Liz ended up doing, room by room.

Entryway, by the front door.

Living room, first floor.

Dining room, first floor.

Top of the stairs, second floor.

Hallway, second floor.

Front office, second floor.

Main bedroom, second floor.

We had come home, hoping to start putting the house in order again. But we’ve continued to keep everything off the floors and have been living out of our suitcases. Because tomorrow, the workers are returning to work out the various issues we’ve identified.
