Mysterious Metra Marks
I spotted this the other day: two metal tracks, right in the middle of the floor. This is from the 56th street station, and I’ve passed it daily for many years now – and never really noticed it.

On my walk to the Metra each morning, I see in the distance a large crane. It’s visible once I get along 55th, but it becomes even more so when I’m on the Metra platform.
On my way home, I found myself thinking about this event – and the combination of two very different systems together. Church and science, God and astronomy. Heaven and the heavens.
There was this great moment, when we first arrived, with the fire going in the living room… where Carol Jean was leaning against the fireplace while Bernie was sitting on the couch. It would have made a most excellent image, capturing both them and the room and the moment. But I’ll just have to content myself with the memory of it.
On our way home last night, Liz and I decided to swing down 53rd street. We had heard President Obama was in Hyde Park, hanging out until his farewell address at 8:00 PM (at McCormick).
Winter is this inevitability. We’ve had such a mild Fall, it felt like winter would never really arrive. But with the recent drop in temperature, I knew the cold was on its way. But today’s first snow caught me by surprise.
In light of yesterday’s commute, it seems even more appropriate to share.
Liz and I went in to vote before work today, circa 8:30 AM. Normally, our little neighborhod polling place isn’t too bad. We were both surprised to see a decent-sized line, so early in the day.
Once again this year, we gave out candy at our house for Halloween. And then around 7:30PM (before the event officially ended), we made our way to Harper Avenue for their annual display of Halloween awesomeness.
The odd thing is – I didn’t see any real motor anywhere. It looks just like a plank of wood, balanced on a single wheel. I’m assuming this thing is electric, as I didn’t see any smoke or hear any noise. But I’ve no real idea what exactly this thing is, much less how it’s powered.
A view from inside the bookstore. Meg later mentioned how much this reminded her of the Book Loft in Columbus, OH.
Spotted this on Saturday night, while Liz and I were out getting food. We were paused long enough for me to snap this photo.
Spotted this a week or so ago, just outside of Spruce Park. I really wish I knew the backstory behind this, and what led someone to take the time to crave this word into the wet cement.
After breakfast, we were roaming around Chicago and doing some photos for Liz’s blog. During one of our many stops, she drove me down Madison Park Avenue – a little hidden block that’s easy to miss unless you know where it’s at.
From time to time, I’ll get shocked at prices at Treasure Island… and then retreat to a Google Spreadsheet I set up. I’ve got a list of common items, and the prices based on where we might shop (Treasure Island vs. Instacart vs. Peapod).
