Grace and Liz, setting up to play “Mindball.” For this exhibit, each person straps monitors to their foreheads… which measures stress levels. The lower your stress level… the more the ball goes towards your opponent.

So many molds. Interestingly, these machines are inextricably tied to MSI in my mind. I remember them from my visits as a child, and the sights and sounds (and especially the smell) elicit a very strong wave of nostalgia.

Liz and I had a second day today, with the Ford kids. Our plan was another “Day in Chicago,” but this time a bit more reserved. A bit lower key.
We blew most of our energy last week on a pretty event-filled day. So today had fewer events, fewer things to do. But we still ended up filling the day, and then some.

One thing we haven’t done much of is visit nearby Jackson Park, located just south of the Museum of Science and Industry. For Liz, she’s been wanting to visit the Japanese garden in the park for a long while now. And after work, we decided that today would be the day.

It’s been several years now, and there’s just a twinge of sadness each time I step foot into the museum. As amazing and awesome as the displays are, I do always find myself imagining the crowds having gone, and the lights dimming. I found myself looking around at various locations, wondering what it would be like to try to sleep at this exhibit, or over under this display.

Both stations are about the same distance from our new house, and though we walked home from here yesterday… neither one of us realized how truly close we were to the Museum of Science and Industry!

Fast forward a bit to the Museum of Science and Industry! On the main floor, we spotted the room for Month at the Museum 2. We didn’t catch Kevin, but I checked out his schedule and made a note to swing back later in the day.

Guess what? The Museum of Science and Industry is holding another Month at the Museum contest! Given the tremendous success they had last year with Kate, it looks like they’re giving everyone another chance to live inside the museum for 30 days. You can learn more about the contest details, or you can dive right in and apply now. A…

Check out some awesome photos of Kate’s first day of her Month at the Museum. Looks like they’ve redone the glass cube, and turned it more into an office. And it was neat to get a sneak peek into the private living quarters. You can follow Kate’s adventures in a variety of ways. She’s on Twitter (@msikate, she has a…

After the big press event for Month at the Museum concluded, like most of the other Finalists… I hung around the museum to explore a little. We each got a bag chock full of stuff (t-shirts, astronaut ice cream, gift certificates) and the thing was pretty heavy. So Liz and I decided to walk it out to the car, before…

All of the Finalists yesterday made plans to meet up, later on in the evening. When asked to choose a location, I was at a bit of a loss. I’m not terribly familiar with the area where their hotel was, and most of the bars I know downtown… I don’t particularly like. But I found a place called Villains which…

The big day is finally here! After nearly two months, all five Finalists in the Month at the Museum contest met up for the first time at MSI, and got to hang out together as a group. We gathered near the front desk area, and holed up a while at some tables near the escalator. Krispijn was a little late…

I’m about to head out the door, and make my way to the Museum of Science and Industry. There’s a breakfast for all the Month at the Museum Finalists at 9AM, where we’ll get the chance to meet one another and… be nervous around one another for about an hour, I suppose. In all seriousness, I’m looking forward to it….

I’ve been talking with Krispijn Larrison, another Month at the Museum Finalist, over the past few days. We tried to get in touch with some of the other folks to arrange to meet the night prior to the big event. Alex couldn’t make it due to time constraints, and Kate was busy with a show she’s directing. Sadly, I wasn’t…
