A New Carpet for Daisy and Phineas

Liz and I have been debating updating the bunny area for a while now. Some weeks back, Phineas was struggling a lot with his health and digestion… to the point where he was going to the bathroom all over the place. Everywhere.

I’m not willing to say he’s out of the woods at the moment. He’s gotten better, but he’s still struggling. That said, the bathroom problems have subsided some… and he’s returned to using the litter box, most of the time.

A result of the really bad period: the carpet smells rough. And it’s looking as bad as it smells.

So today, Liz and I decided to spruce up the bunny area.

Rather than buy cheap carpeting, we opted to go with a nicer rug. And also put down an underlayment for absorption (just in case).

It’s a pretty nice rug. But in my mind, I’m just going to accept the fact that it’s going to get wrecked by the bunnies. And if we can happen to maintain it, and re-use it in a future room… great. But in my head, this thing is already a lost cause. And already belongs to the bunnies.

Liz, prepping the area. One challenge will be that Daisy will need to re-acclimate herself to the space (due to her vision problems). Some things have changed, so we’ll see how well she adapts.

Bunnies, exploring. Here’s hoping this is a more comfortable space for them both.
