A table absolutely filled with hand-made slippers. Meg created a set for every guest who requested a pair – in exchange for a donation to a local organization – Center on Halsted.
Thinking back over the previous weekend, pancakes seem to be finding their way to my plate, somehow. I am liking this trend, but prooobably need to slow down on the flapjacks soon.
Most of the group either was sick, or was just getting over a sickness. Lots of people in Chicago lately (my office in particular) seemed to have caught some kind of bug. Maybe it was the weather change, but it seems like a lot of folks have come down with the same thing lately.
My meal, which was a pile of berry cheesecake flapjacks. Which were pretty much what you imagined they would be: “cheesecake in pancake form.” I was happy to not succomb to my normal habit of coming here, and then ordering something heartier like an omelette. The sweet breakfasts are the main pull for the Bongo Room, and I’m glad to have indulged.
A view from inside the bookstore. Meg later mentioned how much this reminded her of the Book Loft in Columbus, OH.
Videos were recorded of all the readers (there’s a really impressive archive on YouTube), and I’ll share mine once it’s up! Really great time, and truly enjoyed the chance to read my poems again in a public venue.
As a kind of early Valentine’s Day event, Michelle, Mike, Liz and I all headed over to Meg’s new apartment, where she and Josh hosted a dinner and game night.
On Sunday, Liz and I met up with Meg, Josh, Michelle, and Mike for an early Dim Sum meal at Ming Hin.
While I used my phone to take photos while overseas, Michelle and Mike had their camera with them. We all traded photos just a day or so ago, and here are a few from their bunch.
