Morning Flowers

On watching her out the back door, I realized how lovely this moment was. And as much as our home is still very much in a construction-zone mode, we have the ability to just walk out back and pluck a few flowers from the garden.

A kind of odd evening, just watching the sprinkler do its thing and slowly make its way towards us. But we both found this incredibly soothing, incredibly calming.
One of my main goals: fix the spigot, which was leaking. I did a bit of research on YouTube and found out my problem was the anti-siphon valve.
I have a bit more invested in the backyard plants now, as I was tending to them nearly every morning when Liz was away in Georgia. Being the one responsible for the plants, albeit briefly, made me feel a bit more connected to everything back here.
Close to the end of the day, we settled back with a drink and some music. And admired that good-looking arbor that someone put in, many months ago.
One of the apple trees she planted started to flower. Which, as far as omens go, is a good one that I’ll take. This guy seems happy where he’s at, and here’s hoping he’ll continue to be happy.
After picking up Liz’s apple trees yesterday, today was the day to put them into the ground. We got these 4×4 posts installed last year, but had to wait until now to get the trees.
More digging under the deck today. The weather was incredibly warm, and it was a great day to be outside (and somewhat sheltered from the heat). In addition to digging, we started to take down the old wall on the North side of the basement steps.
More digging today. Liz snapped this photo of me, since most of the photos I have are of her digging. We traded back and forth today, and it was a fairly comfortable pace.
This weekend, we resumed our digging under the back porch. Got another Bagster and started a bit on Friday afternoon. But today, we put in some time (despite the overcast skies and a bit more rain than expected).
Midway through, we ran into some big roots. Liz thinks these were from the tree that used to be closer to the house (and one that we removed back in 2014).
This guy was particularly… big? I did wonder if this could be Harold, but that’s an awful lot of weight to have put on, in a short time. But perhaps it’s been a bad pandemic year for everyone, bunnies and humans included. I know that I wasn’t making the best of food choices.
It’s incredible to think about how much work went into our backyard arbor. From the planning and prototype, through the power augur and construction… it’s been a very involved, multi-step process.
I thought to snap a photo before we lit things up and settled in our chairs… but forgot to take a photo afterwards. We mostly just sat and looked into the backyard, admired the arbor, and watched the evening slowly take over the day.
They’re solar powered, and should recharge on their own. They also made a lovely little pattern, on our floor.
