Vacation Drywall, Part 1

The term “vacation” is a bit misleading here. I’m back at work, but all this week Liz has been off still (but spending her hours working on the house).

It’s been a pretty busy last two weeks for us. And it wasn’t until tonight that we had a small breather of time to actually get a house night in.
Earlier in the week, Bob was over and put up a lot of drywall by himself. I’m still awed by this, as each sheet of drywall is pretty heavy (about 75 pounds per sheet).
This morning, everyone was up early in Valparaiso. Julie and Liz were up, prepping for a day of shopping and visiting with Katie. Bob and I were up and ready to head back to Hyde Park for work on the house. Bob and I left around 8:30 AM, and headed to Medici’s for breakfast. After that, we were back at the house and getting to work in the master bedroom.
Last night, Bob came over around the time that I got home from work. The two of us then brought up some plywood from the basement, and got some pieces set to fill in the gap that we cut out of the bedroom ceiling.
Today, I felt better – but I could still tell I was a bit off. That said, I did some small bit of work around the house. While Bob was working on setting up a furnace on our second floor, I did a bit of light demo, cleaned up a lot of trash around the house, and relocated the lights from the bedroom to the hallway.
One of my tasks over the weekend was to cleanly cut the ceiling drywall, so that we could get rid of the loose stuff… and preserve the remaining drywall that I had secured with washers. Bob snapped a line for me as a guide, and I continued the work that Liz started on Saturday.
At the close of the day, I realized I had more work to do – and continued cleaning out the closet area (and filling in the gaps in the wall with foam). Though to my credit, I did decide to use gloves this time. He can be taught!
The laser level, helping point out where the joists are at. I was running low on batter, and just barely finished before this guy conked out.
When I saw this, I got really excited. It’s amazing to see the room in this state, as the walls have never been this insulated or this protected ever. I know we’ve still got more work to do, but this was really encouraging.
An old slide. I wonder if these things slipped down from upstairs, from behind the fireplace?
Today, while Liz and Bob were working on the master bedroom – I worked on cleaning and clearing up more space in the basement. We’ve got a lot of thing stacked up in the front office, and it’s getting near time to move all of that stuff down here (and out of the way).
Liz and I worked on different rooms tonight, after work. She was upstairs painting the newly cleaned bricks in the bedroom, while I was downstairs putting washers in.
Tonight was one of the few nights Bob wasn’t planing on being at the house, so we used it as an opportunity to do some messy work. After getting home from work, we suited up and tackled cleaning the chimney bricks in the master bedroom.
Tonight, I was late getting home (went to a chiro appointment). When I got home, Bob had already left for the day… and I was excited to see more of the bedroom wall was up – a lot more!
